St Felix Centre has always been pet friendly. In an article published in the Toronto Star our Centre has been described as a space “providing a safe haven for people – and their pets.”
We understand that a person’s entire support system can be their pet – this is particularly true for a person experiencing homelessness. There are many studies to support the important role pets play in their owners’ mental health, as well as in increasing their chances for improving their lives and overcoming homelessness and addictions.
As much as our guests love their pets and take good care of them, sometimes they have a hard time giving them access to veterinarian and other services when they need them. And that’s when P.A.W.S. jumps in!
Our P.A.W.S. program (Pets: Accommodating Wishes and Support) provides our guests with the opportunity to apply for up to $300 for veterinarian services, including neutering, vaccinations, and prescription medications for their pets. St Felix Centre recognizes that these are not ordinary pets; some of our guests are experiencing very complex and painful challenges, and for them their pets are not only a companion, but family – sometimes the only family they have.
You can help us in supporting these amazing four-legged companions by making a donation to the P.A.W.S. program! Your donations can make all the difference for these furry friends and their owners. You could be saving two lives! Support St Felix Centre and P.A.W.S.!
